Golf Tee Times Portugal - Montebelo Golf Course

Course Information & Details

Description:
Montebelo sits ten minutes from Viseu, framed by the Serra da Estrela and Serra do Caramulo mountains, and was the first golf course built in the Beiras region. The original 18 holes opened in September 1997, designed by Mark Stilwell and Malcolm Kenyon, with a third nine added in June 2007 to bring the course to a full 27 holes across three loops: Caramulo, Estrela and Buçaco.
The terrain does the talking here. Fairways run through pine and oak, dotted with gorse and heather, with doglegs a constant feature and genuine elevation change throughout. The par-3 12th on the Estrela nine is known as the soul of the course: a long downhill shot to a green guarded by a bunker on the left and a lake behind, set against some of the most striking scenery on the property. The closing holes on each loop deliver proper mountain views, over valleys, streams and well-protected greens.
Facilities include a driving range, pitch and putt, practice bunker, pro shop and clubhouse restaurant, plus a golf academy for lessons. The clubhouse itself is functional rather than polished, but the golf is the real draw. For anyone exploring inland Portugal beyond the coast, Montebelo offers a proper mountain test with three nines to mix and match, and rarely feels crowded.
