Description:
Hato Verde sits in the Sierra Norte countryside outside Guillena, just fifteen minutes from central Seville, and was designed by Manuel ''Manolo'' Piñero, the Spanish Ryder Cup winner who twice helped Europe to victory. Opened in 2008, the course rolls gently over uneven ground dotted with oaks, poplars and palms, giving it a character genuinely different from the flatter courses closer to the coast.
It's a course built to be enjoyed rather than endured: holes sit at manageable distances, the greens have plenty of movement to keep things interesting, and the whole round can be walked without much effort. That said, narrow fairways and well-placed hazards mean it isn't without teeth, and low handicappers looking for a technical test may find more here than they expect. Seniors, families and higher handicappers in particular tend to get on well with it.
Its setting away from the busier coastal courses makes it a pleasant change of pace on a Seville-based break, whether paired with a round at one of the city's grander clubs or played on its own. For golfers who want a genuinely enjoyable, well-designed round without the crowds, this is well worth the short drive out from Seville.
